Your baby may not be old enough to know what Valentine’s Day is but that doesn’t mean that you aren’t allowed to have a little fun of your own! These healthy baby pancakes are not only QUICK and EASY but they are a perfect meal for your LO if you’re baby-led weaning. They are the perfect shape for those chubby little hands to grab on to and they’re the perfect size for babies as young as 6 months all the way up to toddlers or older!

what is baby-led weaning?
If you aren’t familiar with baby-led weaning, I highly recommend this book. It gives so much valuable information about baby-led weaning and is also packed with tonnes more delicious and healthy recipes that you can try for baby!
But in a nutshell, instead of starting off with purees and baby food, you start feeding your baby real table food right from around the time they turn 6 months old. It helps teach baby about different tastes and textures as well as helps them develop excellent hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. It can also be more enjoyable and less stressful for the family because baby can eat with the family and eat the same food everyone else is eating. It’s also just SO much fun! Who doesn’t love to watch a baby shove a whole chicken drumstick or stem of broccoli in their mouth?!?
ingredients
- 1/3 cup of rolled oats
- 1 ripe banana
- 2 eggs
- 1/8 tsp of cinnamon (optional)
- fresh berries or banana (optional)
- unsalted butter
DIRECTIONS
- Blend banana, eggs, oats and cinnamon in a blender.
- Heat a small amount of unsalted butter in a pan on medium-low heat
- Once the butter is melted, pour a small amount of batter onto the pan
- When you start seeing some bubbles rise up through the batter, flip the pancake and cook the other side.
- Once the pancake is golden brown on both sides, set aside to cool and create another pancake.
- Repeat until all of your batter is gone. If you have a large enough pan you can cook more than one at a time. The batter should make about 3-4 small pancakes.
- Once the pancakes have cooled a bit, use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out some fun heart-shaped pancakes.
- Top with some fresh fruit such as raspberries, strawberries or banana. I chose raspberries to stay on theme with Valentine’s Day.
disclaimer
Any fruit you add should be an appropriate size for your baby’s age. Raspberries are ok as-is since they’re soft and squishy. Blueberries need to be squished beforehand and should only be given to older babies that have developed their pincer grip. Strawberries can be added whole or sliced into strips. Bananas should be sliced into strips.
ALWAYS supervise your baby when they are eating and be aware of signs of them choking and I HIGHLY recommend that you take an infant first aid course before introducing baby-led weaning as well.
It is normal for a baby to gag when first introduced to baby-led weaning until they learn how to manipulate food in their mouth. However, choking is rare but serious so make sure that you are preparing food properly and that you are always supervising during meal-times.
Again, I highly recommend reading this book if you are considering taking this route with your baby.
conclusion
Have fun and Happy Valentine’s Day!!
